Hogwarts would cost $42,000 a year, if it were real.

Lehigh University’s Economics department, in honor of the final Harry Potter movie, has decided to find out how much it would cost to send a child to the famed Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
They based their estimate on the cost of similar British boarding schools and information gathered from the books and movies.
Their final number was $42,752, for one years worth of total expenses at Hogwarts.
Wow, that’s a lot of cash. The Weasley children were very lucky to be on scholarship. The full breakdown of cost can be found HERE.
What is even more amazing is that it costs $52,520 for one year at Lehigh University! And that doesn’t come with any cool robes.
I think everyone can agree that they would much rather attend Hogwarts than have to spend four long years in rural Pennsylvania.
Way cooler than Lehigh, and $10,000 cheaper!
“Restrepo” director Tim Hetherington was killed in Libya today

Academy Award nominated director Tim Hetherington was killed today by a rocket propelled grenade in Misrata, Libya.
Hetherington’s 2010 documentary “Restrepo”, which he co-directed with “The Perfect Storm” writer Sebastian Junger, followed a United States Army platoon for a tour of duty in one of Afghanistan’s most dangerous valleys.
The photo journalist was in Misrata covering the Libyan conflict for Vanity Fair.
Peter N. Bouckaert, of Human Rights Watch released this statement, “Tim died about two hours ago. Three other journalist were also hit [in an] R.P.G. attack, one being Getty photographer Chris Hondros [who was seriously wounded]; photographer Guy Martin, of the Panos Agency, who is in very serious condition; and a freelancer, Michael Brown, who is slightly wounded.”
If you haven’t seen “Restrepo” yet you really should, it is an amazing film. It is a shame that Tim had to die this way, but I am sure he was well aware of the dangers that his job posed.
He will be missed.

Seann William Scott heads to rehab

“American Pie” actor Seann William Scott has entered himself into a treatment facility in California. His rep would not give an exact reason why, stating, “Seann William Scott has voluntarily admitted himself for proactive treatment to address health and personal issues.”
My guess is that it’s for Shitty Acting Syndrome, or S.A.S for short. I have come to this assumption because his last two movies were “Role Models” and “Cop Out”.
Ouch. Get better soon Seann, “American Pie 15, Stifler’s Revenge” starts filming in August!
“The King’s Speech” pummels the competition at The Oscars

I liked the “The King’s Speech”. I didn’t love it, but I did like it. The Academy on the other hand, loved it. The film, which followed King George VI’s battle against stuttering, landed wins for Best Picture, Best Director (Tom Hooper), Best Actor (Colin Firth), and Best Original Screenplay (David Seidler). That’s a pretty commanding showing.
The old-timers at The Academy are known for leaning towards the more old fashioned dramas when it comes to Best Picture, so it wasn’t all that surprising.
My favorite winner of the night had to be Luke Matheny, who won for his short film “God of Love”. The movie was his thesis project for NYU film school. He had this huge afro and gave a humorous speech.

Can you say awesome? The new Darren Aronofsky ballet epic “Black Swan” has been dividing critics and filmgoers alike. Many think it is a masterpiece that is deserving of many awards, while others think it is trying just a little too hard. Personally I have not yet seen it and can’t say either way, but for this blog post that really doesn’t matter. Below is a new teaser trailer from director Neill Blomkamp (District 9). It was found in this months Wired Magazine for the iPad. It is pretty awesome.

It sounds like this might just be an internet project for Neill, but you never know, maybe this is the premise for a new movie? I hope so.

Check out this new trailer for the sci-fi flick “Beyond the Black Rainbow“. It is set in 1983 in a strange institute where a young girl is being held captive and tested on. I don’t want to give away too many details, but this movie is going to be amazing. Definitely something to keep your eye on. Hopefully it will have a big release.
